Preservation Coordinator:

            Announced that Neil Hart, Preservation Coordination is on vacation for three weeks.

            Introduced new intern, Ann Gallion, who will work with Moses Corrette on the Central Waterfront Survey.

            The Art Deco Society of California has filed an appeal of the Planning Commission decision not to landmark the existing Jewish Community Center.  The appeal will be heard before the Board of Supervisors on November 20, 2000.

4. APPROVAL OF THE SEPTEMBER 20, and OCTOBER 4, 2000 DRAFT ACTION MINUTES
September 20, 2000 - It was moved by Member Magrane (seconded by Finwall) to approve. The vote was unanimous. (Absent: Dearman and Kotas)

5. PATH OF GOLD LIGHT STANDARDS. Discussion to decide the recommendation of an action to be taken by the Landmarks Preservation Advisory Board to address banners on the Path of Gold Light Standards, Landmark No. 200. (TAM: 558-6325)

Action: Tina Tam, Planning Staff, gave a detailed summary of the events allowing the banners to be placed on the Path of Gold Light Standards.

After listening to Staff and public comment, the Board agreed by a unanimous vote (Magrane/Skrondal) to write letters to the Department of Public Works, the Board of Supervisors, the Director of Planning and the Zoning Administrator, with copies to members of the Board of Supervisors and the citizens group, Coalition for the Path of Gold Light Standards. The letters would request that action be taken to have the permit applicant or the City to remove the banners; requesting legislation be written to allocate funding; and that penalties be enforced. (Absent: Dearman and Kotas)

678 MISSION STREET, north side between New Montgomery and Third Streets. Assessor's Block 3707, Lot 21. A two-story, concrete commercial building (now the office of the California Historical Society) built in 1922. The subject property is rated Category V (unrated) under Article 11 of the Planning Code, is zoned C-3-0 (Downtown Office) District and is in a 300-S Height and Bulk District. Request for review and comment on a proposal to upgrade the property's Article 11 rating to Category III (Contributory).

The subject property is a Compatible building within the Jackson Square Historic District, is zoned C-2 (Community Business) District and is in a 65-D-2 Height and Bulk District. Request for a Certificate of Appropriateness for new projecting sign.

22 ALTA STREET, north side between Montgomery and Sansome Streets in Assessor's Block 106, Lot 34A. A vacant site in the Telegraph Hill Historic District, formerly occupied by a contributory building. The subject property is zoned RH-3 (House, Three-Family) District and is in a 40-X Height and Bulk District. Request for a Certificate of Appropriateness authorization to construct a new one-unit residential building in the Telegraph Hill Historic District. (Note: Item was heard before the Full Board, June 21, 2000. At that time, a motion recommending denial of the Certificate of Appropriateness was passed 8-0 (with one member absent).
Preliminary Recommendation: Approval

Item was continued to December 20, 2000.
